Providing durability for tough drilling applications
The ReedHycalog®'s TuffDuty series of roller cone bits provides a
tougher bearing system combined with several durability
enhancing features. These products are specifically designed to meet the requirements of drilling operations where bit durability
is a major objective. Key design aspects of this bit series include a tougher bearing system, improved cone and insert retention
technology, advanced hydraulics, enhanced gage durability and new high-performance hard-facing for tooth bits.
Tougher bearing system
The TuffDuty series incorporates a larger journal bearing design for greater durability. The bearing uses an optimized cone retention system.
In most cases this is the unique
Threaded Ring.
7 7/8” (200mm) TuffDuty bits use an encapsulated ball design due to specific
geometric considerations.
Improved cone and Insert retention systems
TuffDuty bits feature the MatchFit insert retention system. The MatchFit system is a patented machining and installation
process that enhances insert retention by increasing contact between the insert and the cutter shell.
Increased durability
TuffDuty bits maximize gage durability by placing more tungsten
carbide inserts in the gage area of the bit. Softer formation designs
use GageGuard inserts to protect gage inserts from impact damage and
hole wall abrasion. Harder formation designs use TuffGage, which places
significantly more tungsten carbide on the heel row.
Advanced hydraulics
TuffDuty bits are available with either
Mudpick® or Mudpick® II hydraulics.
Selection can be optimized to suit your
specific application. Mudpick II is designated with a "M" suffix in the product name.
