B-iCenter Drill Bits
ReedHycalog®'s acquisition of Diamond Products International (DPI) is part of our strategy
to offer a broader product line of market leading B-iCenter bits. In deepwater applications, where contingency
casing strings are required, Bi-Center bits provide a hole opening solution. Traditionally
underreamers or hole openers were used. These were often slow and unreliable. ReedHycalog
designs and manufactures Bi-Center bits to open hole reliably, giving a more robust
solution.
Bi-Center bit designs pass through a diameter that is smaller than the bits drill diameter. On drilling ahead,
the bit produces a hole diameter larger than the previous hole section or casing string. This is achieved by
designing the bit so there is an asymmetry in the cutting structure on the reamer. The pilot section of the bit is vital to
centralize the eccentric reaming section to ensure that the drill diameter is achieved.
The reamer, due to geometrical constraints, has very few blades hence the importance of cutter placement and
quality is paramount. TReX® cutters offer unrivaled wear resistance vital to Bi-Center bit applications.
Drill Out
The Steerable Bi-Center range of drill bits have been used to successfully drill out of the casing with minimal wear to
both casing and drill bit.
