The industry leader in rock cutting technology proudly introduces Raptor,
the latest generation of Thermostable PDC cutter, a Breakthrough in rock-cutting technology
Raptor takes TReX® technology and applies it not only to the front face of the
cutter but also to the complete outer circumferential surface of the polycrystalline diamond.
So with Raptor, the complete outer surface of the diamond layer is TReX thermostable diamond.
You get more thermostable PDC with Raptor cutters versus TReX. Hence Raptor cutter bits wear more
slowly than even TReX bits. By keeping the cutters sharper for longer, you not only drill further,
you also drill faster.
When the cutter eventually wears, the wearflat formed has two diamond lips in the thermostable,
ultra-wear resistant layer. One is formed in the front face of the cutter- exactly as you see with
TReX cutters.
The second lip is formed in the TReX layer that is unique to Raptor cutters- the layer that wraps
around the outer circumferential surface of the diamond layer.
The dual lips gives you a very aggressive worn cutter and this helps to maintain high ROPs as the bit dulls.
Performance
In the toughest, most challenging applications, Raptor has delivered more than a 50% improvement in ROP & almost
doubled footage drilled over TReX.
Wear Analysis
Dull field test Raptor-equipped bits clearly show the dual lips formed in the TReX Thermostable PDC as the cutter wears.
Between the front lip and the Raptor crescent-shaped lip you can see the multimodal polycrystalline diamond, which is more
worn than TReX layer since it is not as abrasion resistant or as thermostable.
So Raptor gives significantly more Thermostable PDC at the rock interface, delivering more footage, higher ROP
and lower drilling costs.
