Through in-house analysis and extensive field testing, ReedHycalog has developed special mixes of diamonds
in a tungsten carbide layer designed to increase rates of penetration and ensure long life. Matching the properties
of the matrix to the wear rate of the diamond mix is the key to obtaining the proper balance between bit life and
penetration rate.
When the matrix is too hard, the diamonds are not properly exposed and the penetration rate is reduced.
The proper balance of diamond and matrix properties will provide maximum performance and cost savings.
However, if the matrix is too soft, it will release diamonds before they are worn, thus shortening the life of the bit.
