TuffDuty Bearing
The TuffDuty series incorporates a larger journal bearing design for greater durability. The bearing
uses an optimized cone retention system. In most cases this is the unique Threaded Ring*. 7 7/8” (200mm)
TuffDuty bits use an encapsulated ball design due to specific geometric considerations.
The larger-diameter main bearing delivers greater load-carrying capacity. The large-diameter bearing,
friction-pin, and thrust-face diameters, combined with tighter bore-to-journal tolerances provide greater
bearing stability.
The larger thrust face also increases the axial-thrust capacity of the design. This thrust face utilizes a
patented, silver-plated Stellite® alloy thrust washer which reduces thrust-load heat generation. Special
tribological inlays on the journal and pin reduce bearing wear.
The field-proven,
Threaded Ring cone retention system has been enlarged for the TuffDuty series.
This provides an increased contact area for improved cutter retention. Reducing the cutter to lug backface clearances has
enhanced seal protection on TuffDuty bits.
